Africa-Press – Seychelles. Allowing children on the autism spectrum to have a creative outlet to express their feelings through art as well as teaching them correct motor skills, brings so many wonderful benefits, since art therapy is a wonderful tool that touches on many areas that are beneficial to these children.
It is in this context that the newly set up platform ‘Lar Otizm Sesel’ has come up with a calendar of activities to allow people on the autism spectrum to display their sense of creativity and imagination.
Other than promote their work, ‘Lar Otizm Sesel’ provides platforms, enabling them to further develop and grow as artists.
An initiative of local artist and former arts teacher Robert Alexis, who is well-known for his support for people on the autism spectrum, the association engaged in its first activity earlier this week, which was a drawing and painting session with pupils from the School for the Exceptional Child.
Its aim is to promote art education for people living on the autism spectrum, raise and maintain a platform for their visibility, develop and implement training programmes to increase their knowledge and skills in all forms of art, as well as network and engage with local, national, regional, and international partners, including non-governmental organisations and government agencies so as to promote, support and develop projects, programmes and activities.
According to Mr Alexis, the first activity was well received by the school management, while the pupils showed great interests in the art session.
He said the association has an interesting calendar, which other than visual arts, also features other forms of creative activities that will boost their creative thinking.
For the first activity, Mr Alexis was being assisted by the association’s treasurer, Andre Sinon, who works at the school as an art teacher, along with other staff and parents.
