Africa-Press – Seychelles. The government of Seychelles has taken steps to expand access to specialised oncology care and deepen international healthcare partnerships through a visit by President Patrick Herminie to the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre in Chennai.

The centre, internationally recognised for its advanced technology and expertise in cancer treatment, offers proton therapy – one of the most precise forms of radiation therapy, reducing side effects and improving patient outcomes. Its comprehensive services make it a potential referral destination for Seychellois patients, under consideration by the Ministry of Health.

During President Herminie’s visit yesterday, discussions with the centre’s management focused on strengthening cooperation in healthcare, including capacity building, professional exchanges, and collaboration through both physical and virtual platforms. Telemedicine was highlighted as a key area to facilitate consultations, knowledge sharing, and ongoing engagement between health professionals in Seychelles and India.

The visit reflects the government’s commitment to improving access to world-class cancer care and specialised healthcare services, while building sustainable partnerships with leading international medical institutions.
