Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) held its ordinary congress on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the CATC International Hotel on Wilkinson Road.
Delegates from across the country gathered to discuss the future of football in Sierra Leone, but the event was marked by significant disruptions.
A key point of contention was the proposed adoption of the reviewed SLFA statutes. After deliberation, the majority of delegates voted against the adoption. Sources indicate that 36 delegates voted against the adoption, while 20 voted in favor. The proposed amendments did not achieve the required two-thirds majority. FIFA representatives were consulted, and the decision was made that those against the adoption had prevailed, meaning the statutes remain unchanged.
Despite the challenges, the congress successfully elected members to several crucial committees. The following individuals were elected:
Disciplinary Committee: Hassan Conteh Esq, Salia Kpaka, Ibrahim Tommy Esq, Ibrahim S Bangura, and Shaku Ballay.
Ethics Committee: Osman Musa Kamara, Francess Fatmata Korio Esq, Jonathan Hindolo Karabu Esq, Abu Bakakarr Sheriff, and Mohamed Alusine Kabia. Mohamed Justice Ganawah and Màry Koroma were elected as reserves.
Electoral Committee: Abdulai Yollah Bangura, Mohamed Koi Banda, Daniel Gbondo, Mohamed Amin Gbla, and Frank G. Conteh.
These committees – Electoral, Disciplinary, Ethics, Appeals, and Electoral Appeals – are considered vital for upholding governance standards within the SLFA.
However, the congress faced serious disruptions. Delegates were asked to vacate the Catco Hall midway through the proceedings to accommodate a wedding reception, forcing the voting process to continue outside.
Additionally, delegates raised concerns about the SLFA’s failure to provide the usual congress package, which typically includes lodging, allowances, feeding, and transport refunds. Many delegates reported that they had not received payments promised after the April 5th Ordinary Congress.
The proceedings were overseen by Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James-Teima, FIFA representative Ahmed Harraz, and WAFU Zone A representative Mapathe Gaye.
As of now, the SLFA has not publicly addressed the complaints raised by delegates regarding the disruptions or the outstanding payments.
