Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Iran, His Excellency Salamu Koroma, alongside a high-level delegation from Freetown, is participating in the 3rd Iran-Africa International Economic Cooperation Conference being held in Tehran and Isfahan provinces, in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Sierra Leonean delegation includes Dr. Theresa Tenneh Dick, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security I; a senior official from the Ministry of Health; and the Deputy Minister of Communications and Civic Education. They have joined leaders and representatives from 38 African countries for the landmark economic summit hosted at the Tehran Summit Hall, which coincides with the Iran Expo 2025—Iran’s largest international trade exhibition.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian underscored his country’s readiness to deepen economic ties with Africa, advocating for what he called a “collaborative and brotherly partnership.” He highlighted sectors such as oil, gas, agriculture, health, and security as key areas for joint investment, and called for a future built on love, humanity, and mutual prosperity.
“Iran is prepared to share its technological advancements and development strategies to support African nations,” said President Pezeshkian. His vision was echoed by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and other senior officials from Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Trade.
According to Javad Dehghan Haghighi, Director of Africa Affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference marks a significant step toward enhancing Iran-Africa trade. He emphasized Africa’s growing population and wealth of natural resources as promising opportunities for economic expansion. “Iran views Africa as a strategic partner and a vast market for goods and services,” he noted, adding that the partnership could aid in overcoming historical underdevelopment through targeted investments in infrastructure, skilled labor exchange, and trade.
The conference’s core focus areas include petrochemicals, mining and minerals, agriculture and food industries, health and medicine, and energy.
Following a specialized panel session at the Persian Gulf Hall, Ambassador Koroma and the Sierra Leonean delegation visited the Iran Expo 2025 exhibition, where they met with companies across sectors expressing keen interest in investing in Sierra Leone. These engagements are expected to open new avenues for bilateral cooperation in agriculture, healthcare, and energy development.
The ongoing summit reinforces Sierra Leone’s commitment to exploring international partnerships aimed at boosting trade, technology transfer, and economic development.
