Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Kambia District Council has successfully concluded the maiden edition of its Football Champions League, a high-spirited sporting competition with a cash prize of NLe 200,000, aimed at fostering unity, youth empowerment, and community engagement.

The grand finale, which took place on 7th June 2025, in front of thousands of jubilant fans, featured an intense faceoff between Magbema Strikers and Chaltham Town FC.

After a fiercely contested match, Chaltham Town FC emerged victorious via penalty shootout (5-4), clinching the championship title of the first-ever Kambia District Council Football Champions League.

Held since November 15, 2024, the tournament brought together 12 Division One teams from across Kambia District, competing through group stages, quarterfinals, and semifinals leading up to the final match.

The finals attracted an impressive array of high-profile stakeholders including the Minister of Sports, who officially kicked off the match on behalf of the Vice President, the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, the Manager of the National Referee Association, Hon. Bai Mahmoud Bangura (APC Flagbearer Aspirant), a former Ambassador to Guinea, the Vice President II of the SLFA, the SLFA North-West Regional Chairman, and 10 Paramount Chiefs from Kambia District.

Kambia District Council Chairman, Mohamed Mansarico Mansaray, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all participants, sponsors, and supporters of the league. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the sustainability of the tournament, describing it as a vital tool for peacebuilding, youth development, and social cohesion within the district.

This successful initiative has not only elevated grassroots football in the region but also set a solid foundation for future editions that promise to be even bigger and better.
