Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, attended the launch of the first-ever Strengthening Families Conference 2025, held at the Bintumani International Conference Centre in Freetown.
The event, which was held today, 26th June, 2025, was a collaborative effort between her office and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The conference focused on the theme, “Building Stronger Families within Communities Through Women Empowerment and Child Protection.”
In her remarks, Dr. Bio emphasized the importance of family as the cornerstone of societal well-being, stating, “By recognizing the family as the foundation of societal well-being, we acknowledge the critical role families play in shaping the next generation.”
Dr. Bio, a Muslim woman, who is notably dedicated to fostering interfaith collaboration, highlighted her commitment to advocating for the protection and empowerment of women across Sierra Leone and Africa. She noted, “Empowering women is crucial in this endeavor, as they often play a pivotal role in child-rearing.”
The First Lady called for collective action, urging attendees to prioritize family strengthening and women’s empowerment. “Let us seize this moment to prioritize family strengthening and women’s empowerment, paving the way for a brighter future for Sierra Leone,” she concluded.
The Strengthening Families Conference 2025 aimed to address critical issues related to family dynamics and the empowerment of women, emphasizing the need for supportive communities to enable everyone to thrive.
