RCBank Delegation Visits Liberia for Banking Opportunities

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. A high-powered delegation from Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank), led by Managing Director Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin, departed Sierra Leone on Tuesday, 1st July 2025, for a pivotal mission in the Republic of Liberia.

The team aims to research and engage key stakeholders regarding the establishment of a banking presence in Liberia.

Notably, the mission reflects RCBank’s commitment to expanding its influence in the subregional financial market through innovative and advanced financial services.

Dr. Gilpin asserted the significance of this endeavor, stating, “Certainly, we have not come on a vacation. We are here to not only assess the viability of any future operations but to also make a statement that Sierra Leone is ready to emerge as a key player in sub-regional finance.”

The week-long visit will involve analyzing market data, engaging with potential partners, and building relationships that could facilitate RCBank’s entry into the Liberian market. The anticipated outcomes of this initiative are expected to yield larger profit margins and asset growth for the bank, while also enhancing Sierra Leone’s image within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

RCBank has a history of forging strong partnerships with leading banking institutions across Africa and beyond, seeking to leverage these connections for operational enhancement, particularly in correspondence banking.

Recent collaborations include relationships with Standard Chartered Bank – USA, Ghana International Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa (New York), Aktif Bank (Turkey), and the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS). RCBank was among the first in Sierra Leone to adopt PAPSS, which streamlines cross-border payments in local currencies within Africa.

As the delegation engages with key stakeholders in Liberia, the banking sector will be closely monitoring the developments of the mission, hopeful for a positive outcome that could reshape RCBank’s role in the regional financial landscape.
