Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has started the installation of CCTV cameras in key locations across Bo City as part of a new plan to fight against crime and improve safety.

The project, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu, is the first step in a wider plan to set up cameras across regional police headquarters in the country.

The cameras are being placed in areas that are often busy or sensitive, including the Bo Government Hospital. According to the SLP, the goal is to make police work more visible and help with both preventing and investigating crimes.

This follows similar installations in Freetown, which the police say have already helped improve how they respond to incidents and gather evidence.

IGP Sellu said he wants to move the police from being seen only as a force to one that gives service to the public. Since becoming head of the SLP, he has introduced several changes to support this vision, including the use of new tools and technology.

The CCTV project in Bo is part of that effort. The IGP also plans to expand it to all other regional police headquarters towns. Police believe that using technology in this way can help build trust with the public and make communities safer.

The SLP says the CCTV installation will continue in the coming months, as they look to improve safety and service through better tools and smarter policing.
