Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Energy Sector Lead of Sierra Leone, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, has declared that he currently holds the most difficult assignment in the country, emphasizing his commitment to delivering positive results for the people.
In a recent engagements on AYV Wake Up Sierra Leone Programme, speaking on the state of energy, Yumkella reflected on his experiences and the key responsibilities he has undertaken since his appointment.
Yumkella stated, “When President Bio called me to hand over the job, I realized that the assignment is quite difficult, especially considering the public criticism often directed at the sector.” He acknowledged the challenges he faces but reiterated his determination to make a positive impact.
During his tenure, Yumkella has collaborated closely with various government officials, including the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Agriculture, to mobilize $850 million for energy initiatives. “I was appointed within eight months, and I have worked with my networks to achieve this,” he asserted.
He highlighted that his role in the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government differs significantly from what he would have done while in opposition. “You should judge me when I leave the energy space and the food space,” he remarked, indicating his focus on tangible outcomes rather than political posturing.
Yumkella emphasized the importance of building systems, institutions, and partnerships to drive change in the energy sector. “My reputation in the world requires responsibility, and I take on challenges to deliver results,” he stated.
He also noted that President Bio not only sought his expertise but also his extensive connections, which he has proven to be beneficial in navigating complex issues. “I have designed strategic guidance to address these problems effectively,” he concluded.
