Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. On July 12, 2025, at Boroma New Site, Gbense Chiefdom, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), through the Sierra Leone Free Quality Education (FQE) Project and with funding from the World Bank, Irish Aid, the European Union, the Government of Sierra Leone, and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), officially handed over a newly constructed six-classroom school building.

The commissioning ceremony brought together key stakeholders in the education sector, including the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Mr. Conrad Sackey; officials from the Free Quality Education Project; the Deputy Director of Education for Kono; Kono District Council Chairman Augustine Sheku; Deputy Chairperson Rebecca Yei Yambasu; and other local authorities and education partners.

The newly constructed building, designed to ease overcrowding and improve the learning environment, is part of the broader Free Quality Education initiative aimed at strengthening educational infrastructure across the country.

During the ceremony, Minister Sackey emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to providing safe, quality, and accessible learning spaces for all Sierra Leonean children. He praised the cooperation of local authorities and community members and called on them to protect and maintain the new facility.

A highlight of the event was the commendation given to Yorma Engineering Company. Under the leadership of lead engineer Mr. Sahr Sessie, the company delivered the project on time with outstanding workmanship despite being the last to be awarded a contract under the current phase of school construction.

“The work delivered by Yorma Engineering Company is not only timely but reflects a high level of professionalism and commitment,” said one of the officials from the FQE Project. “This is the kind of partnership we want to continue building.”

Local authorities at the event expressed sincere gratitude to the government and its development partners for the school, which is expected to serve hundreds of pupils in Boroma New Site and surrounding communities.

They pledged to ensure the school is used for its intended purpose and safeguarded as a vital community asset for advancing education in Gbense Chiefdom.
