UNDP EU Launch Workshop to Boost Civil Society in Security Reform

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the European Union (EU) Support to ECOWAS in Peace, Security, and Governance (EPSG) Project, has commenced a three-day national workshop aimed at enhancing the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in Security Sector Reform and Governance (SSRG).

The workshop, which began on Monday, July 14th, 2025, brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from civil society, government institutions, development partners, and technical experts. Its primary objective is to promote a more inclusive, transparent, and accountable security sector in Sierra Leone.

The official opening ceremony was attended by senior officials from UNDP in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the European Union in Sierra Leone, the German Embassy, and the ECOWAS Resident Representative.

The EPSG Project, which is co-funded by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to enhance ECOWAS’ capacity in peacebuilding, security, and governance across West Africa. It is implemented by GIZ, EF, and FIAP in partnership with ECOWAS.
