Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Government of Sierra Leone has announced key measures aimed at promoting national unity, reconciliation, and social cohesion, highlighting President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to peace and inclusive governance.

The announcement was made through a public notice by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education on Thursday, 14 August 2025.

Clearing of Individuals Listed by the APC

Under Resolution 4(c) of the National Unity framework, the All People’s Congress (APC) submitted a list of individuals they claimed were in self-exile or hiding due to political activities. Following consultations with the Office of National Security (ONS), the Sierra Leone Police, and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, it was confirmed that none of these individuals were subjects of any criminal investigation.

The Government has formally cleared these individuals, assuring them of their full freedom to go about their daily affairs without hindrance.

Presidential Pardons

In a further move toward national reconciliation, President Bio granted pardons to selected convicted individuals, including an APC sheriff. Some pardoned individuals were linked to Resolution 4, while others had been convicted of criminal offences unrelated to politics.

All pardons followed review and recommendation by the Pardon Committee, chaired by the Vice President. These actions reflect the President’s resolve to extend second chances to deserving individuals from all backgrounds.

Call for Peace and Development

President Bio has urged all beneficiaries to use the opportunity to contribute positively to peace, national cohesion, and the development of Sierra Leone.

The Government emphasized that these measures reaffirm its commitment to the spirit and objectives of the Agreement for National Unity, underscoring its determination to build a united and peaceful nation.
