Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s U-18 Beach Volleyball team has earned a historic silver medal at the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Youth Development Cup, which climaxed on Saturday, 6th September 2025, in Banjul, The Gambia.

In a thrilling final that had fans on the edge of their seats, the young Sierra Leonean boys fell to the host nation, The Gambia, by two straight sets (21–17, 21–16). Despite the narrow defeat, the performance marked a breakthrough moment for Sierra Leone’s fast-rising beach volleyball programme.

The Gambian side—African U-18 Champions from Abuja and silver medalists at the maiden School Games in Algeria—proved a formidable opponent. Their experience, coupled with two months of rigorous international competition, gave them the edge on home soil.

For Sierra Leone, the journey to the finals was nothing short of inspiring. The team’s resilience, discipline, and fighting spirit captured the hearts of many, signaling the promise of a brighter future for volleyball in the country.

This silver medal achievement is also a major boost to Operation Podium Finish – Dakar 2026, a national sports initiative designed to prepare Sierra Leonean athletes for the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.

Though they did not return with gold, the young athletes brought home more than silver—they secured respect, gained invaluable international exposure, and inspired confidence that Sierra Leone can rise to continental and global volleyball glory in the years ahead.
