WESOFOD-SL Launches Village of Hope for Disabilities

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. With funding support from Trocaire through the TEC-VOC Project, the Welfare Society for the Disabled Sierra Leone (WESOFOD-SL) has officially launched the construction of the Village of Hope in Pujehun District, an initiative aimed at empowering persons living with disabilities.

The project commenced with the construction of an accessible vocational skills training centre that will provide training in tailoring, soap-making, and bead-making.

Speaking at the launch, WESOFOD-SL District Coordinator Mohamed Sillah reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to advocating for and supporting persons with disabilities across Sierra Leone. He emphasized that the Village of Hope is designed to promote independence and sustainable livelihoods for youths and women with disabilities.

“This project will directly benefit 20 young people with disabilities and 10 parents of children with disabilities. Our goal is to construct an accessible vocational training centre, provide relevant tools, and ensure beneficiaries acquire marketable skills that will improve income generation for persons with disabilities,” Sillah said.

Key interventions under the project include:

Construction of an accessible vocational skills training centre in Pujehun District.

Equipping the centre with tools for tailoring, soap-making, and bead-making.

Supporting 20 youths and 10 women with short-term vocational training.

Delivering business and financial management training to enhance sustainability.

The one-year project, running from May 2025 to April 2026, will cover three chiefdoms in Pujehun District: Kpanga, Panga Krim, and Kpaka.

Also speaking at the event, Skills Centre Coordinator Mohamed Alhaji Sheriff assured stakeholders of the team’s commitment to deliver on the project’s objectives. He urged the contractor to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe, stressing that the project is time-bound.
