Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), in partnership with the West Africa Football Union Zone A (WAFU-A), has concluded a three-day medical workshop in Freetown aimed at improving medical standards and enhancing player care protocols across the regional football community.
The seminar brought together medical practitioners and football health specialists from WAFU-A member associations. The training covered injury prevention strategies, emergency response protocols for match days, anti-doping compliance, and team medical management, with a strong focus on athlete safety and welfare.
In his closing remarks, SLFA President Babadi Kamara described the workshop as a key step in meeting the demands of modern football. He emphasized the importance of qualified medical personnel in safeguarding player health and performance.
Minister of Sports Augusta James-Teima commended the initiative and reaffirmed government’s commitment to programs that prioritize athlete welfare. She also underscored the need to strengthen medical infrastructure as part of broader sports development efforts.
WAFU-A President Lamin Kabba Bajo expressed appreciation to the SLFA and the Government of Sierra Leone for their hospitality and support. He noted that continuous professional development for medical staff remains essential in modern football and reaffirmed WAFU-A’s commitment to regional capacity building.
The workshop ended with a certificate presentation to participants and a group session marking the completion of the training program.
