Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has convened a high-level meeting to enhance collaboration among government institutions and international partners in Sierra Leone’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

The meeting follows directives from His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio aimed at tightening control over drug smuggling through the country’s official ports of entry and exit.

The session brought together leaders from key government agencies, as well as representatives from embassies and high commissions, to review progress and share data-driven insights.

The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbour Authority presented recent findings on the origins of containers intercepted with drug-related or suspected substances, while the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority outlined ongoing measures at the airport to deter trafficking.

The Sierra Leone Police and the Office of National Security provided updates on investigations and enforcement actions following recent arrests, emphasizing the government’s continued focus on accountability and deterrence.

According to the Chief Minister, multiple agencies and partners are intensifying their operations to make it increasingly difficult and costly for smugglers to exploit Sierra Leone’s ports. Upcoming measures will also include stricter controls on imports of acetone, tramadol, and certain herbal products such as herbal marshmallow.

These efforts form part of a broader national strategy to strengthen border security, disrupt illicit networks, and protect communities from the growing threat of drug trafficking.
