Sierra Leone Hosts 34th RMU Meeting with New Member

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone on Thursday hosted the 34th Board of Governors Meeting of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel in Freetown, marking a major milestone with the admission of Guinea-Bissau as the university’s sixth member state.

The event brought together ministers and maritime officials from across West and Central Africa to discuss strengthening regional cooperation and maritime education.

In his address, Transport and Aviation Minister Alhaji Fanday Turay described Guinea-Bissau’s inclusion as a “historic step” that reflects Africa’s growing commitment to unity and maritime development.

Member states, including Ghana, Liberia, The Gambia, and Cameroon, reaffirmed their support for RMU through new projects, partnerships, and training initiatives aimed at boosting capacity and advancing Africa’s blue economy.

With this new addition, the Regional Maritime University now comprises six nations working together to promote maritime excellence and regional integration.
