Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Motema Police Division, under the leadership of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mohamed Turay, has intensified its community engagement drive to strengthen crime prevention and security in Kono District.
Since taking command, CSP Turay has made community policing a top priority, holding regular meetings with youth groups, traditional leaders, and local stakeholders. These efforts aim to build trust, share safety messages, and develop collaborative strategies to maintain peace and reduce crime.
During a recent engagement at Peya Town in Peyefeh Section, Nimiyama Chiefdom, CSP Turay praised residents for keeping crime rates low and fostering a peaceful community. He emphasized that the Sierra Leone Police now practices “partnership-based policing,” working alongside communities rather than merely consulting them.
“Effective policing thrives on trust, partnership, and shared responsibility,” CSP Turay said, urging residents to actively participate in creating safer communities.
The police chief also addressed pressing issues such as drug abuse and sexual offences, highlighting the dangers of narcotics and reminding residents of the Sexual Offences Act. He called on parents to take responsibility for their children’s welfare and education to ensure law and order is maintained.
Community leaders welcomed the renewed partnership with the police. Chief Paul Mayamba, Senior Town Chief of Peyefeh Section, commended the transformation of the area from lawlessness to orderliness, pledging continued support for police initiatives. Chief Sahr Wotay also raised concerns over a land dispute between Meya and Manjedu communities, urging police intervention to prevent unrest
The engagement concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where residents raised concerns and received immediate responses from police leadership.
Through these ongoing initiatives, the Motema Police Division is reinforcing public trust, strengthening crime prevention measures, and promoting a safer and more secure Kono District.
