Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has co-authored a landmark commentary in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health, joining a coalition of global experts to advocate for sustained investment in adolescent girls as a cornerstone of national development.

The article, titled “Investing in Adolescent Girls Works: We Can’t Afford to Stop,” presents compelling evidence that funding programmes targeting adolescent girls delivers transformative outcomes across education, health, economic growth, and violence prevention.

However, the authors caution that international aid for girls has declined in recent years a trend they urge global leaders to reverse.

Minister Bah collaborated with leading experts including Lauren Rumble (UNICEF, New York), Suzanne Petroni (Gender Equality Solutions, USA), Professor Lucie Cluver (University of Oxford and University of Cape Town), and Fanta K. Touré (Resilio Fund, Dubai). Together, they argue that adolescent girls are not just beneficiaries of development but drivers of progress.

“For President Bio and for me, this is more than policy it’s a moral and national imperative. When girls thrive, nations rise,” Minister Bah stated, linking the publication’s findings to Sierra Leone’s education agenda under President Julius Maada Bio.

The commentary reinforces Minister Bah’s growing international reputation as a leading advocate for gender equality and human development. It also highlights Sierra Leone’s rising influence in shaping global discourse on education, equity, and youth empowerment.

By contributing to one of the world’s most respected academic journals, Minister Bah and his co-authors have sent a powerful message: the world cannot afford to scale back on girls. The evidence is in investing in them works.
