Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Mohamed Shebora Bangura has been sworn in as a new Member of Parliament, filling the seat left vacant by the tragic death of Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma.

The ceremony was presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, who outlined the legal basis for the appointment.

He stated that Bangura’s entry into Parliament was conducted pursuant to the District Block Proportional Representation System Regulations of 2022, following an official notification from the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

In accordance with Section 83 of the 1991 Constitution, the Clerk of Parliament administered the oath of office to the new MP.

Bangura, who represents Kambia District, succeeds the late Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma. Koroma, a Member of Parliament for the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), tragically died in a road accident on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

The fatal accident, which also claimed the life of his driver, plunged his constituency of Tonko Limba Chiefdom and the wider Kambia District into mourning.

The late Koroma was a well-known political figure in the region, and his passing was widely described as a profound loss to both his community and the nation.
