Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has reaffirmed its partnership with the World Bank in driving social protection and youth empowerment under the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project.
The engagement, held at the 7th Floor of NaCSA House, marked a renewed phase of collaboration aimed at advancing inclusive development across Sierra Leone.
The meeting brought together a high-level World Bank delegation led by Robert S. Chase, Practice Manager for Social Protection and Jobs, alongside Asha Monifa Williams, Senior Social Protection Specialist, and Hannah Buya Turay, Social Protection and Human Capital Specialist.
Welcoming the team in a culturally symbolic gesture, NaCSA Commissioner, Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, received the visitors on behalf of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, presenting kolanut and water as tokens of peace, unity, and Sierra Leonean hospitality.
In his presentation, Commissioner Ndomahina highlighted NaCSA’s remarkable strides under the PSSNYE initiative.
“Over the past year, we have enrolled more than 11,000 beneficiaries into the Social Safety Net and nearly 6,000 into Economic Inclusion programs across five pilot districts. With support from 200 business coaches, thousands of women and youths have benefited from Sustainable Cash-for-Work and Green Public Works schemes, gaining employment, childcare assistance, and contributing to environmental sustainability.
“Digital Public Works and Youth Enterprise Grants have empowered over 10,000 young people, while the near-complete Youth Portal promises to transform access to job and training opportunities nationwide,” he stated.
In response, Robert S. Chase commended NaCSA’s achievements and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s efforts to reduce poverty, create jobs, and build resilient communities.
Dr. Suzan Robert, NaCSA’s Deputy Commissioner (Appointee-Designate), underscored that PSSNYE aligns closely with the Government’s national development priorities and emphasized the Commission’s readiness to deliver on its mandate.
Senior Director Idris Turay called for a scale-up of the initiative through additional financing to expand its reach and deepen its national impact. Similarly, Md. Regina Saffa, Senior Director of Programs, reiterated the team’s determination to demonstrate tangible results and continue building on current successes.
Also present were Senior Director for Support Services, Fedrick Koffi Addai, Director of Finance, Yussuf Ibrahim, and the Director of Human Resources and Administration, alongside other technical experts.
The courtesy visit concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and two key takeaways: NaCSA’s readiness to showcase measurable impact and the urgent need for sustained investment to maintain momentum.
This engagement not only celebrated progress but also reaffirmed a shared vision for a more inclusive, empowered, and resilient Sierra Leone.
