Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Referees Committee has suspended four match officials and a referee assessor for a serious error during a recent Leone Rock Premier League match.
The disciplinary action follows a review of the November 8th fixture between Ports Authority FC and Luawa FC, which ended in a 0-0 draw. The committee found that the officiating team made a collective error in the 47th minute that significantly impacted the match’s integrity.
Video evidence confirmed that the Luawa FC goalkeeper tripped a Ports Authority attacker outside the penalty area, denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
According to Law 12 of the Laws of the Game, this should have resulted in a red card for the goalkeeper. However, center referee Albert Kamara incorrectly issued only a yellow card and a direct free kick.
The review concluded that both assistant referees failed to signal the offense despite having a clear view, and the fourth official did not intervene. Furthermore, the referee assessor, Juma Kamara, was found to have omitted the critical incident from his official match report.
In response, the SLFA Referees Committee issued the following suspensions:
Referee Albert Kamara: A three-week suspension and a mandatory Law 12 refresher course.
Assistant Referees Adikalie Kargbo and Davids Kargbo: A two-week suspension and refresher training.
Fourth Official Abdul R. Fofana: A two-week suspension and refresher training.
Referee Assessor Juma Kamara: A one-month suspension and a formal reminder of his reporting duties.
In a statement, the SLFA reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Laws of the Game and ensuring high refereeing standards across all competitions in Sierra Leone.
