Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Referees Organization (NRO) has conducted a comprehensive fitness and classroom training session for referees from the Northeast Region.

The session took place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Wusum Field and SLC School in Makeni.

The training focused on improving physical fitness and updating referees on the latest rule amendments introduced by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in July 2025. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to enhance the capacity and professionalism of match officials across the country.

Leading the exercise, Referee Manager Franklyn A. F. Marrah underscored the importance of discipline, fitness, and professionalism among referees, warning that match officials’ performances will be closely monitored throughout the new football season. “Consistency, fairness, and fitness are key pillars of a referee’s success,” Marrah emphasized.

CAF and FIFA Technical Instructor, Alhaji Abdul Rahim Sanusi, commended the referees for their dedication and encouraged them to stay focused as they prepare for upcoming SLFA competitions. He noted that the program was designed to enhance both the physical readiness and technical competence of referees nationwide.

Regional Referees Chairman and National Fitness Trainer, Ibrahim Bristo Kamara, described the training as timely and essential for improving decision-making consistency, fitness levels, and adherence to professional standards. He reaffirmed the region’s commitment to fair and impartial officiating, aligning with SLFA President Babadi Kamara’s vision of promoting integrity and excellence in Sierra Leonean football.

Kamara concluded by expressing appreciation to the SLFA leadership for its continued investment in referee development, stating that such initiatives are crucial for maintaining high standards in domestic and international matches.

The engagement marks another milestone in the SLFA’s broader strategy to elevate refereeing standards and ensure credible match officiation across all competitions.
