Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Police Hospital at Kingtom has officially launched a nationwide free surgical campaign, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing partnership with the Surgeons in Action Foundation.
This initiative follows the arrival of the tenth batch of specialist surgeons from Spain, who landed in Freetown on November 14, 2025, to provide critical medical support to police personnel, their families, and underserved communities across Sierra Leone.
The international medical team, composed of experienced surgical professionals, is working in collaboration with local health authorities to deliver specialized care at no cost.
Prior to the commencement of surgeries, comprehensive patient screenings were conducted at police hospitals and affiliated health facilities nationwide. These assessments helped identify individuals most in need of surgical intervention, ensuring that resources are directed toward the most vulnerable.
With the selection process, complete, surgical operations are now underway at the Kingtom Police Hospital. The campaign is expected to span several weeks, with procedures ranging from general surgery to more complex interventions, depending on patient needs.
Hospital officials emphasized that the campaign is part of a broader effort to improve access to specialized healthcare services within police communities and beyond. “This initiative not only strengthens our medical capacity but also reinforces our commitment to serving those who serve,” said a senior hospital representative.
The free surgical campaign reflects a growing trend of international medical collaboration aimed at bridging healthcare gaps in developing nations.
As the operations continue, further updates will be provided to highlight patient outcomes and the overall impact of the campaign.
