China Commits to Strengthening Ties with Sierra Leone

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong concluded a three-day working visit to Sierra Leone, reaffirming China’s commitment to consolidating friendship, mutual trust, and expanding practical cooperation with the West African nation.

Liu, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Sierra Leonean Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh during his visit from Wednesday to Friday.

Conveying greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio , Liu emphasized that China is ready to work with Sierra Leone to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state last year.

The Chinese Vice Premier called on both sides to leverage China’s zero-tariff policy to improve the quality and efficiency of cooperation, specifically in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.

The visit coincided with the 10th anniversary of China’s support in successfully combating the Ebola epidemic in Africa. Liu called for continued deep collaboration in the health sector, highlighting the benefit to both peoples.

Liu also stressed the importance of coordinating closely on international affairs, urging the two developing countries to actively implement the Global Governance Initiative and jointly uphold international fairness and justice.

Vice President Jalloh conveyed President Bio’s sincere regards and warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation. He acknowledged the long-standing diplomatic relationship, noting that political mutual trust has continued to deepen and bilateral cooperation has achieved remarkable results.

Jalloh expressed gratitude for China’s assistance during the Ebola epidemic and confirmed that Sierra Leone will steadfastly uphold the one-China principle. He also committed to deepening cooperation in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and advancing the implementation of the 10 partnership actions announced at the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

During the visit, Liu and Jalloh jointly attended the 10th-anniversary commemorations of the Ebola collaboration, the inauguration of a Chinese-aided fishing port, and a photo exhibition on China-Sierra Leone agricultural cooperation.
