Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio will today preside over a high-level United Nations Security Council debate on “Threats to International Peace and Security – Conflict-related Food Insecurity,” the principal signature event of Sierra Leone’s presidency of the Council.
The open debate will examine the growing link between armed conflict and rising food insecurity, highlighting how hunger both fuels and results from global instability.
As Sierra Leone leads the session, Council members are expected to discuss how conflict disrupts food systems, displaces populations, and heightens vulnerabilities in already fragile regions.
According to the agenda, the meeting will emphasize the urgent need to prevent the use of starvation as a weapon of war. It will also explore strategies to build resilience, restore agricultural systems, and reinforce accountability for violations of international humanitarian law.
The session will be broadcast live at 10:00 AM EST (3:00 PM Sierra Leone time) on UN WebTV and will air nationally on SLBC TV and AYV TV, in addition to several online platforms.
