The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, has warmly welcomed the tenth batch of medical volunteers from the Spain-based Surgeon in Action Foundation, who arrived in Sierra Leone for a week-long free surgical mission at the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Hospital.
During a brief ceremony at the hospital, IGP Sellu expressed deep appreciation for the foundation’s continued partnership, noting that their support has significantly improved the quality of healthcare services at the SLP Hospital.
“Patients coming from Liberia and Guinea say that we have been recognised,” the IGP said, highlighting the growing regional trust in the facility. He assured the team of the SLP’s unwavering cooperation throughout their mission and extended best wishes for a successful and impactful stay in the country.
On behalf of the Medical and Dental Association, IGP Sellu also presented an official certificate authorizing the visiting medics to practice in Sierra Leone during their humanitarian assignment.
Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, Deputy Director of Medical Services and Medical Superintendent of the SLP Hospital, highlighted the foundation’s expanded support, which now includes human capital development. He announced that David Fanday, a staff member of the SLP Hospital, has been awarded a scholarship by the foundation to pursue further medical studies abroad.
Dr. Konteh further revealed that more than 1,500 patients have benefited from free surgical interventions through the long-standing collaboration between the SLP Hospital and the Surgeon in Action Foundation.
Head of the visiting medical team, Dr. Daniel Pastor, noted that all members of the tenth batch are first-time visitors to Sierra Leone and reaffirmed their commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services throughout their mission.
The team is expected to conduct over 200 free general surgeries during their week-long stay, furthering the impactful legacy of the foundation’s ongoing medical outreach in the country.
