Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone will on Tuesday 18th November 2025 mark a significant step toward expanding financial inclusion with the official launch of the Regional Cooperative Credit Union in Kenema.
The initiative, supported by Irish Aid Ireland in Sierra Leone and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sierra Leone, marks a major milestone in advancing community-led financial empowerment across the country.
Developed and operated through KAKEBO Financial Services, the new credit union aims to provide affordable, accessible, and reliable financial services to residents, particularly those in underserved communities who continue to face difficulties accessing formal financial institutions.
The institution will offer a range of services, including savings, loans, and financial literacy support, all designed to bring financial solutions closer to the doorsteps of ordinary Sierra Leoneans.
According to organizers, the establishment of the Regional Cooperative Credit Union represents a bold step toward fostering economic resilience, promoting gender equality, and enhancing sustainable livelihoods.
By improving access to essential financial services, the initiative is expected to help families grow small businesses, invest in education, and strengthen household stability.
The launch event is scheduled to take place at 3 Dorwaila Avenue, Reservation in Kenema, starting at 10:00 a.m. Stakeholders, community members, development partners, and supporters are expected to join in celebrating what is being described as a transformative moment for financial inclusion in Sierra Leone.
As the country continues to pursue inclusive development pathways, the introduction of the Regional Cooperative Credit Union stands as a significant contribution toward ensuring financial dignity and opportunity for all.
