Stats SL Warns Public of Fraudulent Census Recruitment

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has warned the public about a fraudulent recruitment message circulating on social media, urging citizens to disregard the false information.

The message, titled “Want to apply for census positions? Here’s How,” falsely claims that Stats SL has launched an online application portal for recruitment ahead of the 2026 Population and Housing Census (PHC).

In a statement, Stats SL described the message as entirely false and misleading, noting that scammers even recycled language from a previous official disclaimer to appear legitimate. The agency emphasized that no new recruitment or online application portal has been opened for the 2026 Census.

Stats SL clarified that the only recruitment notice issued this year was published on 27 April 2025 for temporary positions in the ongoing cartographic mapping exercise. Applications for these positions closed on 15 May 2025, and the recruitment process has since concluded.

The agency reminded the public that all authentic announcements are issued strictly through its verified communication channels and urged citizens to rely solely on these platforms for accurate information.

Stats SL also advised the public to remain vigilant, avoid sharing unverified recruitment materials, and report suspicious messages to the appropriate authorities. The institution reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and public trust as preparations for the 2026 PHC continue.
