Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has entered Day 5 of Week 2 of its nationwide tour, as Managing Director Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi, the first woman to lead the institution continues her comprehensive visitation and site inspections across the country.
Accompanied by Board Chairman Joseph Ndanema and Board Member PC Amy, the latest phase of the tour took the team to Mile 91 in Tonkolili District, followed by Moyamba and Bonthe Island.
At Mile 91, Station Manager Ing. Osman Pele Bangura welcomed the delegation and praised MD Jabbi on her historic appointment. He highlighted the progress made in improving operational efficiency but also presented key challenges requiring attention. Community representatives expressed appreciation for the visit, congratulated the new MD, and appealed for improved water supply services.
Board Chairman Joseph Ndanema reaffirmed SALWACO’s renewed commitment to addressing public concerns. He assured residents that all issues raised would be communicated to the Board and Management for urgent consideration.
MD Jabbi, in her remarks, thanked the community for their engagement and pledged to work closely with her management team to strengthen service delivery and enhance financial sustainability. She also commended customers for their willingness to pay water rates, assuring them that efforts were underway to improve water systems and overall service reliability.
In Moyamba, Director of Project Management Ing. Yankuba Tarawally provided an update, disclosing that the water project is 70 percent complete and progressing steadily toward full delivery. Project Manager Ing. Bayoh echoed this assurance, noting significant improvements already achieved.
On Bonthe Island, Director of Operations Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie and Ing. Tarawally briefed the MD on the ongoing project and outlined key requirements for its successful completion. Station Manager Mr. Johnny and his team also presented an operational report.
MD Jabbi’s nationwide site inspection aims to ensure a full understanding of station operations, identify critical gaps, and guide strategic interventions that will strengthen both service delivery and the company’s financial viability.
The tour will continue this week with planned visits to Pujehun, Bo and Kenema, before the delegation returns to SALWACO Headquarters at Tower Hill, Freetown.
