Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Association of the Blind (SLAB) will hold its first-ever Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kenema City on 17 December 2025, poised to unite members of the blind community from across the country and the diaspora.

According to SLAB organizers, the meeting aims to create a national platform to discuss major issues affecting blind and visually impaired persons, including rights, inclusion, empowerment, and access to development opportunities.

SLAB officials said Kenema was selected as the host city because of its active branch structure, strong membership engagement, and the progressive steps taken by local authorities to promote disability inclusion in the district.

The AGM will feature discussions on accessibility and education, skills training and employment opportunities, human rights and legal support, as well as ways to strengthen collaboration with national and international partners.

SLAB leadership noted that the gathering represents an important step toward advancing equal rights and promoting the full participation of blind persons in Sierra Leone’s development agenda.

Local stakeholders and government officials are expected to attend the opening ceremony. Organizers say they hope the outcomes of the meeting will contribute to stronger national policies that support disability inclusion.
