Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi has visited the Kenema station during her nationwide tour and site inspections.

Members of the delegation include the Board Chairman of SALWACO, Joseph Ndanema, PC Amy Kallon, SALWACO Board Member, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie, Director of Operations, SALWACO and Ing. Yankuba Tarawally, Director of Project Management, SALWACO.

In Kenema, SALWACO’s Regional Manager, East Briama Allieu welcomed the team and congratulated MD Jabbi on her appointment as first ever female MD of SALWACO. He said that the Eastern Region comprised Kailahun, Kenema and the Blama stations, noting that strides had been made to see that the company is fully able to deliver on its mandate. He however called for more support to help staff to perform set functions as would be determined by management.

Station Manager in Kenema, Ing. Osman Turay presented a comprehensive station update, capturing successes and station challenges. He spoke on how the station has the capacity to continue to deliver, but touched on the fact that more support is needed to ensure quality service delivery. He said that if some of the pressing challenges were addressed, the station will be able to continue to do well.

Director of Communication, Gender and Outreach, SALWACO, Mary Mansaray Ngegba remarked that it was welcoming to have MD Jabbi as the institution’s first female boss, adding that women are in better positions to understand the importance of water to and for people. She said that SALWACO requires national collaboration and implementation, stressing that achieving enviable institutional results requires collective responsibility. She added that SALWACO staff are required to give the new MD the much needed support in making sure that set standards were achieved.

Director of Project Management, Ing. Yankuba Tarawally said that Kenema is set to benefit from a solar powered project that will ensure that the challenge of electricity becomes a thing of the past for the institution. He said that similar projects will also be replicated in other SALWACO stations. Director of Operations, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie said that the new SALWACO MD is result driven and that she understands what it takes to move SALWACO forward, adding that all staff are therefore required to come on board in making sure that the right things are done.

In her response and keynote address, the new SALWACO Boss, Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi informed that she remains committed to make SALWACO a functional and financially viable institution. She added however that all staff and stations should be able and willing to achieve more results, stating that with that, there would be chances to improve conditions for staff, stations and customers.

MD Jabbi made similar remarks in all areas where she had visited, stating that if the stations are capacitated to produce results, they should have no excuse for not delivering. She furthered that when stations are able to perform and do well, management will ensure to provide the much needed support to make work easier and better.

MD Jabbi and delegation started the nationwide tour in Makeni and Magburaka before heading to Kabala, Lunsar and Port Loko. The delegation concluded week one of the exercises is Kambia, Rokupr and Lungi, Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom.

Week two of the station tours and site inspections covered Mile 91, Moyamba, Bonthe Island, Pujehun, Bo and Kenema.

MD Jabbi is expected to continue with the station engagements including departmental ones with a view to continue to understand situations/operations and to see that improved mechanisms are adopted which will ensure quality service delivery.
