Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) has formally requested an extension of the deadline for the submission of NPSE and BECE entries to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), citing the need to allow schools more time to complete the process with fewer difficulties.
In a letter dated 2nd December 2025 and addressed to the Chief Education Officer at the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, SLTU Secretary General Morris S. Conteh stated that the union had learned that the official period for submitting entries for the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) runs from December 2025 to January 2026.
Conteh wrote that due to this short window, the union is “hereby requesting for an extension of the period from January 2025 to the end of February 2026.” According to the letter, SLTU believes the extension will “enable all affected schools who have not yet submitted their entries to do so with minimum difficulties.”
The union expressed hope that both the Ministry and WAEC would consider the request favourably, noting that the proposed adjustment would ease pressure on schools and ensure smoother preparation for the national examinations.
“We would be very grateful if our request is granted,” Conteh stated, extending thanks in advance on behalf of SLTU.
