Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. A group of 180 Sierra Leonean migrants have safely returned home from Mauritania on a charter flight.
The voluntary return operation was organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone. The European Union provided the funding for the effort.
According to Myk Berewa, the State House Communications Director, many of the returnees had originally left Sierra Leone for Mauritania seven to eight years ago.
The initiative reaffirms the commitment of the government and its partners to ensuring safe and dignified voluntary returns.
The returnees will be welcomed back into their communities through a government-supported reintegration program.
