Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea, Alhaji Mohamed Foday Yumkella, presented his Letters of Credence and the recall of his predecessor to President General Mamady Doumbouya at a colourful ceremony held at the President’s Lodge in Conakry on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Ambassador Yumkella conveyed best wishes from Julius Maada Bio, wishing President Doumbouya continued good health and success in improving the lives of the Guinean people. He pledged President Bio’s commitment to deepen fraternal relations and to promote anti-corruption measures that will create a more conducive business environment between the two countries.
The new Ambassador recalled the long-standing relations between Sierra Leone and Guinea that precede independence, describing the connection as more than friendship but a brotherhood grounded in shared ethnic, cultural, and traditional ties. He praised Guinea’s role in supporting Sierra Leone’s return to peace and said that contribution would never be forgotten.
President Doumbouya welcomed Ambassador Yumkella and noted that President Bio was the first leader to visit Conakry after Doumbouya took office, expressing gratitude and extending a standing invitation to Sierra Leone’s leader. The two held a meaningful discussion in Susu, a language common to both countries, with the Ambassador’s use of Susu drawing positive reaction from the President and his cabinet.
Ambassador Yumkella highlighted existing strong cooperation in security and commerce and emphasised Sierra Leone’s determination to maintain internal and regional security. He described the two peoples as closely related culturally and socially, saying it can be difficult to distinguish a Guinean from a Sierra Leonean.
The Ambassador was accompanied to the Presidential Lodge by his wife, Deputy Ambassador Fatmata Sawaneh, Head of Chancery Madam Rakie Marcarthy, and Umaru Sitta Turay, Information and Press Attaché.
Ambassador Yumkella ended by expressing confidence that he would rely on Guinea’s support and guidance as he embarked on his diplomatic mission.
