Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey has hosted representatives from the British Council in Sierra Leone.
He revealed that they reflected on the longstanding history of the British Council’s presence in Sierra Leone, through the Scholarship Achievement Award and the facilitation of students in undertaking the Cambridge examinations during the meeting, adding that, it was a great move to the educational sector of the country.
He furthered that their discussion was very productive which leads to finding ways to revitalise this work going forward, particularly at this moment ahead of the Education World Forum in London, which presents an important opportunity to take stock and reinvigorate partnerships for strengthening education outcomes in Sierra Leone.
The Minister expressed greater satisfaction over the visit as he commit to the development of education in the country as well as working on building strongly the Free Quality Education in the country.
In another development, the Minister revealed joining other colleagues, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, for the official launch of the Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) project in Bonthe District an initiative which is funded by the Government of Iceland.
“This initiative targets the Bonthe District, one of the most vulnerable areas with 86% food insecurity, and aims to integrate social protection, education, health, and agriculture. The initiative will connect local farmers and local fishermen to schools, providing students with nutritious meals, thereby encouraging school attendance and supporting local agriculture” he stated.
He added that the Home-Grown School Feeding Program not only aims to improve educational outcomes and reduce hunger among school children but also intends to stmulate local economies, empower women farmers and adopt environmentally sustainable practices, forging a path towards resilience and development in Sierra Leone.
