Chinese Ambassador Farewells Speaker Thomas and Parliament

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wang Qing, made a courtesy call on the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq., and the Clerk of Parliament, Karmoh Conteh, to bid official farewell. On Thursday, 20th November. 2025.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wang said the visit was intended to formally say goodbye to the Speaker and the Parliament of SierraLeone.

He recalled arriving in Sierra Leone in 2023 and noted that his years of diplomatic tenure would conclude in December.

“During my time in the country, bilateral relations, particularly with the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic, had flourished.” He said.

He highlighted reciprocal visits between Members of Parliament and Chinese officials, and praised Speaker Thomas for leading a parliamentary delegation to China last year.

“The hospitality I have received from the House will be greatly missed,” Ambassador Wang said, adding that he now considers Sierra Leone his second home.

Speaker Thomas expressed deep gratitude for the Ambassador’s contributions to Sierra Leone-China ties. He acknowledged that Ambassador Wang had facilitated the construction of ten mobile offices for Parliament, a gesture for which the institution will remain forever grateful. The Speaker requested the Clerk of Parliament to arrange a commissioning ceremony for the new offices in honour of the Ambassador’s efforts.

The Speaker concluded his remarks by presenting a gift to Ambassador Wang as a token of appreciation for his dedication to Sierra Leone.
