Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) has announced plans to roll out digital skills training programs for 1,000 police officers, as an effort to modernising law enforcement in Sierra Leone.

The initiative follows a recent meeting between DSTI and the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) at the SLP headquarters, where they discussed the development of a new Personnel Management System aimed at digitising human resource processes.

The collaboration between DSTI and SLP is deemed a transformative step away from outdated manual processes to a fully integrated digital platform.

The new Personnel Management System (PMS) is designed to automate HR workflows, reducing delays in promotions, transfers, and payroll.

It will also improve data accuracy, ensuring reliable records for over 10,000 officers across the country, and enhance transparency by minimising administrative bottlenecks and manual errors.

Beyond the implementation of the PMS, DSTI has reaffirmed its commitment to upskilling police officers in digital literacy.

The training programmes will be hosted in regional Digital Learning Hubs, providing officers with essential digital skills that will boost their productivity and effectiveness in their roles.

The initiative notably reflects DSTI’s successful youth disability inclusion program, demonstrating that technology can bridge gaps in critical sectors, including law enforcement.

With the requirements for the new system finalised and development already underway, the project sets a precedent for digital transformation within Sierra Leone’s public sector.
