Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Liberian Football Association is reportedly targeting Sierra Leone National team head coach, Mohamed Kallon.
This revelation surfaced last week amid calls by Kallon urging the Sierra Leone FA (SLFA) to increase his salary from $10,000 a month to $20,000. According to reports, the SLFA is willing to increase Kallon’s salary to only $15,000. Meanwhile, the Liberian FA is willing to pay the Leone Stars coach an outstanding $40,000 as head coach of their national team, the Lone Star -according to a podcast hosted on Mags Tribune,
Kallon holds a UEFA A License in coaching and is seen as a reliable tactician.
Kallon was appointed as head coach of the Leone Stars in February this year. Reacting to the appointment, the SLFA President, Thomas Daddy Brima said Kallon “is the people’s choice.” He got his first test in a World Cup Qualifiers in March when his team defeated Guinea-Bissau 3-1 in the Liberian capital, Monrovia. Days later, his team narrowly lost against Egypt in Cairo.
Despite the defeat, locals were proud of the team’s display, especially their ability to possess and counter.
Sierra Leone currently sits at third position with eight points following two wins, two draws and two losses in six matches.
The Leone Stars will face Guinea-Bissau away on September 1 before hosting Ethiopia the following week.
The West Africans have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but Kallon is optimistic that a win in both matches could edge them closer to history.
