Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) has poised an ambitious plan to train over 1,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in essential skills development.

The initiative was highlighted during a press conference held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, by the newly appointed Chief Commissioner for the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Brima Abdulai Sheriff.

Commissioner Sheriff introduced a comprehensive strategy for disability development known as PRIDE, which stands for Policy Engagements, Resilience, Inclusion, Dignity, and Empowerment.

He emphasized the importance of transitioning the PRIDE strategy from theoretical frameworks to practical applications, ensuring that PWDs are fully empowered and equipped with necessary skills.

He also underscored the significance of peace and unity within the disability community, asserting that stability is crucial for achieving meaningful progress.

The training program by DSTI aims to provide PWDs with valuable skills that can enhance their employability and foster greater inclusion in society.
