Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Professor Alhaji Brima Gogra, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, Port Loko Campus, recently discussed plans to enhance security and streamline examination procedures.
In an interview with Sierraloaded following the conclusion of first-semester exams for continuing students, Professor Gogra addressed concerns about exam malpractice and efficiency.
Gogra said the university is exploring the possibility of involving military personnel and secondary school principals in the invigilation process, particularly at the more populated Makeni campus. He also confirmed plans to implement a CCTV system to monitor exam halls and deter cheating.
He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for exam malpractice. “Any student caught in exams malpractice will be investigated with all evidence including CCTV footage. If found guilty, actions will be taken against them” he said.
Professor Gogra acknowledged the time and resource limitations of separate exams for continuing and fresh students. The university aims to conduct a unified exam schedule in the future.
He cited financial constraints as a hurdle to implementing these plans and furthering campus development.
The first-semester exams for continuing students ran from April 3rd to 16th. Exams for fresh students are scheduled for later this month.
