Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), has donated cleaning equipment and tricycles to the Kroo Bay Community to improve waste management efforts.
The donation includes shovels, rakes, boots, face masks, gloves, and two motorized tricycles. Six local youths will be trained to operate the tricycles as part of the initiative. To sustain the program, residents will contribute a small fee for waste collection, with proceeds going toward tricycle maintenance.
During the handover ceremony, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr urged the community to use the equipment solely for waste management and called on leaders and residents to combat illegal dumping and unauthorized land reclamation.
The donation precedes the Freetown City Council’s upcoming #DortiMusGo campaign, which will launch with a large-scale city cleanup in mid-May.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance sanitation through new waste management regulations.
