Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs held a strategic meeting with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) team to discuss initiatives on Women in Finance and Land Rights.

The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, during the engagement expressed profound appreciation to FAO for its steadfast commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, particularly in the areas of land rights and access to finance.

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to reforming the land and financial landscape to ensure that women have equitable access to resources and opportunities that foster economic growth and social justice.

The Minister also emphasised the importance of strong collaboration between the Ministry and FAO in advancing gender equality and justice within the land and financial sectors. She highlighted key legislative frameworks that guide women’s land rights, including the Customary Land Rights Act and the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act, which provide a legal foundation for the protection and promotion of women’s rights.

Speaking on behalf of FAO team, Ms Olara Park commended the Ministry for its unwavering commitment to gender equality, especially in promoting women’s participation in financial inclusion and land ownership. She reiterated FAO’s continued support for empowering women through initiatives in land rights, agriculture, and finance.

The meeting underscored the Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening women’s rights, enhancing their access to productive resources, and ensuring inclusive development across all sectors.
