Government Partners with Youth for Digital Inclusion

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Government of Sierra Leone, through its Directorate of Science and Technology, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a coalition of youth-led and community-based organizations, signaling a strategic move to enhance digital inclusion and foster technology-driven development across the country.

The signing ceremony, held at State House in Freetown, brought together key stakeholders from government and civil society, including representatives from Matarix Brotherhood, Off White Youth Organization, Queenbeez Foundation, and Apex Foundation.

The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration aimed at expanding digital literacy and increasing access to technology, particularly among young people. The initiative includes a nationwide rollout of free digital skills training programs, with the partner organizations responsible for implementation and community engagement.

Mr. Jasper Sembie, Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Directorate, emphasized the importance of technology integration in governance and education. He highlighted ongoing government efforts to modernize public institutions and support innovation at the grassroots level.

Representing Apex Foundation and the Free Quality School Education (FQSE) Secretariat, Mr. Augustine Koroma described the partnership as a valuable addition to the government’s broader education agenda. He acknowledged the gains made under the FQSE program and welcomed the MOU as a tool to bridge the digital divide.

Miss Fatama M. Sumaila, Coordinator of Queenbeez Foundation, expressed gratitude for the collaboration and pledged continued support for national digital empowerment efforts. Other organizational leaders echoed similar sentiments, calling the partnership both timely and essential for sustainable community development.

The MOU is expected to play a key role in achieving Sierra Leone’s digital transformation objectives by leveraging local networks to deliver inclusive tech-based initiatives. Government officials view the agreement as a blueprint for future partnerships that align with national development priorities.
