Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Government has made allowances payments to the country’ male U-20 team [Shooting Stars] delegation currently in Ismailia, Egypt representing the country at the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This report was made by the National Sports Authority (NSA), media officer Eric Fomba, stating that the funds were allocated to cover players’ and officials’ allowances, as well as other match-related expenses.
This development followed the arrival of the Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, and the NSA’s Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, in Ismailia on Monday, 5th May 2025, after the team boycott training ahead of a match over allowances not been paid.
The government intervention in making sure allowances are paid is a step in the right direction ansd seen as a significant morale boost for the team, which is making its debut appearance at the continental youth tournament. Head Coach Mohamed Kamara and his squad are hopeful of securing qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup — a historic first for the nation.
