Government Presents Draft Mission 300 Energy Compact to Development Partners

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Government of Sierra Leone has presented its draft Mission 300 Energy Compact to a joint committee of foreign development partners, marking progress in the country’s push for energy security and economic growth.

The presentation was led by Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, Energy Sector Lead, and Hon. Minister of Finance Ahmed Sheku Fantamadi Bangura. Key stakeholders in attendance included representatives from the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and other development organizations.

Mission 300 is a proposed national energy policy structured around five strategic pillars aimed at building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable energy system. The plan focuses on increasing generation capacity, attracting investment, accelerating digital innovation, expanding rural electrification, and fostering economic growth.

“This compact, which we expect to finalize in the coming months, is the product of extensive collaboration across government, the private sector, and development partners,” said Dr. Yumkella.

“It is a comprehensive roadmap designed not just to boost our national generation capacity but also to drive investment, accelerate digital innovation, expand rural electrification, and stimulate broad-based economic growth.”

The draft agreement reflects collaboration between government ministries, the private sector, and development partners. If finalized, it is expected to unlock critical funding and technical support for Sierra Leone’s energy sector.

“We are grateful for the constructive engagement of our partners today and look forward to finalizing this compact together,” Dr. Yumkella added, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation.

The Julius Maada Bio administration has prioritized reliable and affordable electricity as part of its development agenda. Officials view Mission 300 as a significant step toward achieving that goal.

No specific timeline was given for the compact’s finalization, but the government anticipates progress in the coming months.
