Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Kamakwie Police Division has intensified its community engagement efforts, with a focus on strengthening collaboration between law enforcement and local residents as part of Independence celebrations.

During a routine patrol on Monday, the Local Unit Commander (LUC), Superintendent John S. Koroma, led a sensitization outreach in Kamaranka Chiefdom, encouraging citizens to actively support policing efforts in their communities.

Delivering his Independence message, Superintendent Koroma urged residents to work closely with the police by providing timely and reliable information that could help prevent crime. He stressed that a strong and respectful relationship between the public and the police remains essential in maintaining peace and reducing fear within communities.

He also called on chiefdom authorities to identify responsible young people who could be trained as Community Safety Volunteers to assist in local security efforts, reaffirming his commitment to serving the people and ensuring their safety.

Responding to the engagement, Paramount Chief PC Kandeh Gbetgbo Bangura III expressed appreciation to the police for their continued presence and outreach in the chiefdom. He commended the professionalism of officers deployed in the area and acknowledged the importance of sustained collaboration.

The Paramount Chief highlighted key challenges affecting the community and urged parents and guardians to guide their children away from violence while promoting education as a foundation for responsible citizenship.

On behalf of the people of Kamaranka, and in consultation with Section Chiefs, he pledged the chiefdom’s full participation in the Local Policing Partnership Board, reinforcing their commitment to strengthening community policing initiatives.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts by the Sierra Leone Police to build trust, enhance cooperation, and promote shared responsibility in maintaining law and order across communities.
