Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Farmers in the Kenema District have received a major boost in their agricultural activities following the symbolic handing-over ceremony of power tillers by the District Agriculture Officer, Matthew Mohamed Kenneh.
The event, held under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, marks a significant step in government efforts to promote mechanized farming and improve food production across the district.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Kenneh emphasized the importance of empowering local farmers with modern farming tools to increase efficiency and yields. He noted that the distribution of power tillers aligns with the government’s broader agenda to transform the agricultural sector and ensure food security in Sierra Leone.
“These machines will not only ease the burden of manual labor but also help farmers cultivate larger portions of land within a shorter time,” Kenneh stated. “We believe that with the right tools and support, our farmers can produce more and contribute significantly to the local economy.”
Beneficiary farmers expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that will enhance their productivity, especially as the new farming season approaches.
The District Agriculture Office assured continued monitoring and technical support to ensure that the machines are properly utilized and maintained for long-term impact.
This latest initiative forms part of the government’s ongoing drive to modernize agriculture and empower rural communities, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable food production and economic growth.
