Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has described 25th October as a challenging day, marked by a frightening accident and devastating loss of property, but she remains thankful that no lives were harmed.
In a statement shared on her Facebook page, the Mayor disclosed that her official vehicle was struck by a truck in what she called a “terrible accident” earlier in the day.
She explained that the side of the vehicle that sustained most of the damage was where she normally sits. Fortunately, she was not inside the car at the time of the crash.
According to her, barely thirty minutes after the incident, her driver received a distressing call that his house was on fire. By the time he arrived home, the entire building had already been consumed by flames, leaving nothing to be recovered.
The Mayor expressed deep sympathy for the emotional toll of the day, noting that “many tears” had been shed. She, however, maintained gratitude that neither she nor her driver, nor anyone else, was injured or hospitalized.
“It is well. God is in control,” she concluded in her message of faith and resilience.
