Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. A recent report has alleged that Sunday worship at The Axe of Zion Covenant Ministry was violently disrupted when a group of armed men, reportedly dressed in military uniforms, stormed the church premises.
According to church officials, the assailants injured at least two congregants and vandalized property during the attack, which they describe as a troubling escalation of a longstanding land dispute.
The incident, which occurred in Freetown, has left the church community in shock and fear. Church leaders allege that the attack is connected to a court case over ownership of the church’s land, which has been pending since September 11, 2024.
According to the church, despite possessing documents from Court No. 8 validating their claim, enforcement of the court’s decision has been ineffective. “Our sanctuary was destroyed and our members attacked by those who think they are above the law,” the church’s leader said, adding that both police and local authorities failed to act despite being shown legal documentation.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the attackers may be acting under the influence of powerful figures trying to unlawfully seize the land.
Among the victims was a church elder and a female congregant who suffered a severe head injury requiring stitches. The church claims to have video and audio recordings of the assault.
Attempts to initially frame the dispute as a domestic property issue have reportedly been corrected in court, with legal authorities confirming it as a land ownership case.
While a bench warrant has been issued for some suspects, none have been apprehended, according to church officials.
“We have followed every legal channel. But our pleas have gone unheard,” said the church leadership. “We now call on national authorities, human rights defenders, and the media to stand with us. Justice must prevail.”
Drawing strength from biblical figures like Esther and Joseph, the congregation remains hopeful. “We believe God is with us in this trial,” they said. “Like the heroes of scripture, we will stand firm.”
Call to Action: The church is appealing for immediate intervention by Parliament, government agencies, human rights organizations, and the press. Supporters or interested parties are encouraged to contact the church at +23275599744 for more information or to obtain access to the recorded evidence.
